Yuzu 15.0.1 Firmware
1. What is this used for?
In the context of the emulator, firmware files (specifically the nca files) were required to:
2. Is 15.0.1 safe to use? Version 15.0.1 was a stable firmware version compatible with later builds of Yuzu. However, because Yuzu development has ceased, using this firmware will not provide support for newer games released after the emulator's shutdown.
| If you need… | Use firmware | |-------------------------------------|--------------| | Maximum compatibility (most games) | 17.0.0 or 18.0.0 | | Lightweight / older hardware | 15.0.1 or 16.0.0 | | Specific regression testing | Keep 15.0.1 installed alongside a separate yuzu portable copy | yuzu 15.0.1 firmware
Upgrading: You can install a newer firmware directly over 15.0.1 using Install Firmware to NAND – no need to delete the old one.
yuzu does not replicate the Switch’s low-level hardware in the same way a virtual machine does. Instead, it translates hardware calls into PC-compatible instructions. However, certain high-level system services—especially the ones responsible for launching newer game titles—require the actual firmware files. Without them, you may encounter: yuzu does not replicate the Switch’s low-level hardware
(Note: exact internal change-logs for console firmwares beyond Nintendo’s public notes are often sparse; emulator projects and reverse‑engineering teams document behavior differences when relevant.)
Open Yuzu. Go to File > Install Files to NAND… (In older versions, it was under Tools > Install Firmware). it was under Tools >
Through community testing (from the now-archived yuzu compatibility page), here is how firmware 15.0.1 performs across popular titles.
| Game Title | Compatibility w/ 15.0.1 | Notes | |------------|----------------------|-------| | The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild | Perfect | Works even with 13.x – no benefit from newer firmware | | Pokémon Scarlet/Violet | Good (with mods) | Requires 15.0.1 minimum; crashes on 14.x | | Super Smash Bros. Ultimate | Perfect | No difference across firmwares | | Metroid Dread | Perfect | – | | Bayonetta 3 | Playable | Minor audio glitches, fixed in 16.0.2 but acceptable | | Xenoblade Chronicles 3 | Great | Memory leaks less frequent than on 16.x | | Fire Emblem Engage | Perfect | Runs best on 15.0.1 | | Tears of the Kingdom | Barely Playable | Frequent crashes; use 16.0.3 instead | | Persona 5 Royal | Perfect | – | | Kirby and the Forgotten Land | Perfect | – |
Verdict: Stick with 15.0.1 for pre-May 2023 games. For Tears of the Kingdom, upgrade to 16.0.3.
