In the era of ransomware, printers are a vulnerable entry point. Xerox regularly releases firmware updates to patch vulnerabilities (like Cross-Site Scripting or unauthorized access via the Web Interface). Running old firmware leaves your office network exposed.
If your network is unstable or you’ve had failed upgrades before, use a USB cable.
Step 1: Download the firmware file (usually a .exe self-extractor or a .dlm file) from Xerox onto your Windows PC.
Step 2: Connect your PC to the B1025 via USB Type-B cable (the square-shaped port on the back). Ensure the printer is recognized by Windows (check Devices & Printers).
Step 3: Run the Xerox Firmware Updater Tool. Most Xerox B1025 firmware packages include a small utility. Launch it as Administrator (right-click > Run as administrator).
Step 4: The tool will detect the B1025. Select it from the list. Confirm the current vs. new version.
Step 5: Click Start Upgrade. A progress bar appears. The printer screen may go dark, and fans may spin loudly—this is normal.
Step 6: Wait for the “Upgrade Complete” message. The printer will restart twice. Do not unplug the USB cable until the touchscreen returns to the home screen.
Step 7: Close the tool and unplug the USB.
There are two primary methods to update the firmware for the Xerox B1025: automatically via the Xerox Device Agent (XDA) or manually via the Embedded Web Server.
A failed firmware upgrade can "brick" your printer (turn it into an expensive paperweight). Follow this checklist to mitigate risk.
This method is best for IT administrators managing multiple printers.
Before upgrading, you need to know what you are running.
