Unlike the older retail DVDs, ESD-based distributions are designed for digital delivery. The high compression used in ESD files allows the 11-in-1 image to fit on a standard single-layer DVD (4.7GB) or a smaller USB drive.
However, because ESD images are encrypted and highly compressed, they are not immediately editable using standard deployment tools like DISM or the Windows System Image Manager (WSIM) without first converting them back to a WIM format. Note: Some releases also replace Starter with Enterprise
