You can run apps that request intrusive permissions (read contacts, SMS, location) inside the VM while feeding them fake data via Xposed modules. Your real phone stays clean.
Do not install the Pro version (unless you already have a mod). Install the standard VMOS or VMOS Pro Free from the Play Store.
