Vita3k Work.bin File Info

On Windows, work.bin is a standard binary file. On Linux/macOS, it may appear without a file extension. You should never edit or delete this file manually while the emulator is running.

Developers and power users sometimes need to interact with work.bin directly. Here are legitimate scenarios.

Enable detailed logging to see exactly why work.bin is being referenced:

Look for lines like:

[Debug] <Core> Attempting to load work.bin from /path/to/game
[Error] <Load> work.bin: Invalid ELF magic

This tells you whether the file is missing, corrupt, or incorrectly identified.

A common reported issue: after dumping Persona 4 Golden using an old version of Vitamin (a deprecated dumping tool), users find a work.bin inside app/PCSB00560/. When installed, Vita3K fails to boot.

Solution steps (real-world example):

Lesson learned: The work.bin was a red herring—the actual problem was an obsolete dumping method.

Message Example: Hash of work.bin does not match expected value

Cause: The file was partially written (e.g., power loss during generation) or modified by a third-party tool. Vita3k Work.bin File

Solution:

Some .pkg downloads come with a companion work.bin.
Use case: When you have both files from a trusted source.

Steps:

⚠️ Without the correct work.bin, the .pkg installation will fail.

You can copy work.bin to another machine to avoid re-decrypting large game libraries. Simply copy the entire game folder (including work.bin). As long as the target Vita3K uses the same firmware (boot.rom), the file will work.
