How to Undo "Block Element" in uBlock Origin: A Step-by-Step Guide
We’ve all been there: you’re trying to clean up a cluttered website, you click "Block Element," but your hand slips. Suddenly, the entire navigation bar is gone, or the "Buy Now" button has vanished into the digital void.
If you’ve over-blocked a site and need to bring elements back, don't worry—it’s an easy fix. Here is how to unblock elements in uBlock Origin and manage your custom filters. Method 1: The "Quick Fix" (Undo) After creating the filter, go to: uBlock dashboard
If you just blocked the element and haven't refreshed the page yet: Click the uBlock Origin icon in your browser toolbar.
Look at the bottom of the popup menu. You will see a small "Undo" (curved arrow) icon. Click it to immediately revert your last custom filter. Method 2: The "Surgical" Fix (The Dashboard)
If you blocked the element a while ago and need to find it specifically, you’ll need to head into the settings.
Open the Dashboard: Click the uBlock Origin icon and click the Dashboard icon (it looks like three gears or sliders).
Go to "My Filters": Click on the "My filters" tab at the top. This is the list of every manual block you have ever created.
Locate the Rule: Look for the domain of the website you were on. The lines will look something like this:example.com##.header-ad-banner Delete or Edit:
To unblock everything for that site, delete the lines starting with that website's name. To unblock a specific part, delete only that specific line. Refresh the page
Save Changes: Click the "Apply changes" button at the top left.
Refresh: Go back to the website and refresh the page. The element should be back! Method 3: Using the Element Picker to "View"
If you aren't sure which line in your filters is the culprit: Go to the website where the element is missing.
Open the uBlock Origin popup and click the Element Picker (the eyedropper icon).
Even if the element is invisible, you can often see the "ghost" of where it was. However, it is usually much faster to use Method 2 and look for the website name in your filter list. Pro Tip: Temporary Disabling
If a website is completely broken and you can’t figure out what you blocked, you can "Power Off" uBlock for that specific site by clicking the large Power Button in the uBlock popup. This lets you confirm if uBlock is indeed the reason the site looks "broken" before you go digging through your filters. Check out our other guides on privacy and ad-blocking!
