With the release of Train Sim World (TSW) and Unreal Engine-based simulators, many predicted the death of Train Simulator Classic freeware. The opposite has happened. Because TSW is locked down (no easy modding tools), the modding community has flocked back to Train Simulator Classic. As of 2025, more free content is being released now than in 2018. The "Legacy Engine," as some call it, is easier to mod than ever.
