Tower Crane Dismantling Method Statement <2025-2026>

Assumption: dismantling a luffing or hammerhead tower crane using a mobile crane with fly/jib removal. Follow manufacturer’s sequence if different.

Note: Provide a detailed engineered lift plan with load calculations for each lift, crane charts and rigging arrangement for every critical lift — attach as appendices. tower crane dismantling method statement

Without a written, approved, and briefed method statement, tower crane dismantling is illegal on most regulated sites. But beyond compliance, the document serves three real-world purposes: Assumption: dismantling a luffing or hammerhead tower crane

After the last component is on the ground: Note: Provide a detailed engineered lift plan with

  • Secure all crane sections for transport (lashing certified).
  • Final site photograph – clear ground, no crane remnants.

  • | Condition | Action | |-----------|--------| | Wind speed > 20 mph (9 m/s) | Stop all lifts above 50ft height. | | Wind speed > 25 mph (11 m/s) | Complete stop – secure partial load. | | Rain / fog (visibility < 50m) | Stop work. | | Lightning within 10 miles | Stop work, evacuate crane area. | | Night work | Only permitted with full lighting (500 lux minimum). |

Even with a method statement, crews sometimes deviate. Watch for these errors:

    | Role | Name (Example) | Responsibility | |------|----------------|----------------| | Project Manager | J. Smith | Overall authority; ensures resources are available. | | Appointed Person (AP) | R. Jones | Plans the operation; issues the lift plan; holds authority to stop work. | | Crane Supervisor | T. Brown | Directs the dismantling crew; manages communication; checks weather. | | Tower Crane Operator | M. Lee | Operates the tower crane during lowering of components; shuts down crane. | | Mobile Crane Operator | D. Clark | Operates the auxiliary mobile crane (e.g., 200-tonne all-terrain). | | Riggers / Dogmen | Team of 4 | Attach slings, guide loads, disconnect pins/bolts. | | Safety Officer | S. Grey | Monitors compliance; enforces exclusion zones. |
