The film serves as an origin story for Vesemir, a cocky and charismatic young Witcher who hunts monsters for coin, not honor. He is self-absorbed and enjoys the luxuries his job affords him. However, his world is turned upside down when a mysterious new threat emerges—a mutated creature that threatens both humans and Witchers alike. Vesemir is forced to confront the skeletons of his past and the dark secrets of the Witcher stronghold, Kaer Morhen.
The story does an excellent job of exploring the politics of fear. It shows why Witchers are hated by the very people they protect, diving deep into the moral grey areas the franchise is famous for.
