On May 5, 2021, Race Direction published a new protocol:

“Any rider who causes a crash by an irresponsible, dangerous, or malicious action, especially at high speed or in a crowded pack, will be shown the Black Flag with a Red Disc (the direct red card). The rider must return to pit lane immediately and is disqualified from the remainder of the session or race. A grid penalty for the next event will also apply.”

Unlike football, this "card" is actually a black flag with a large red circle (to avoid confusion with the traditional black flag for mechanical issues). In Spanish media, it was instantly dubbed la tarjeta roja directa.
