Role Play is not a comfortable watch. It is claustrophobic, morally grey, and pushes the limits of the "romance thriller" genre. The final twist (involving a third-party app that records everything) is a gut-punch that will make you check your own phone’s permissions.
If you are a fan of Gone Girl or The Handmaiden, you will love this film. The acting is raw, and the cinematography utilizes Seoul’s neon-lit back alleys to create a sense of voyeuristic dread.
