Projectr -v0.4.0.0- -team-apple Pie- (2024)

Behind the cryptic version string lies a development collective that refuses to show their faces. In a rare (and characteristically cryptic) Discord announcement, the team’s lead compiler, who goes by the handle pie_chief, stated:

“We’re not a studio. We’re not even a proper team. Apple Pie is just a name we threw on a whiteboard after eighteen hours of debugging a shader compiler. But v0.4.0.0 is our statement: modding doesn’t have to die when the original devs walk away.”

The team’s internal structure is famously flat. There are no product managers, no roadmaps longer than two weeks. Instead, contributors earn a slice of the “Apple Pie” title by committing documented fixes to the project’s Gitea instance. As of this release, the team boasts 14 core contributors and over 200 community testers who have opted into the “Recipe Program” (a play on the team’s name and their penchant for baking-themed code names).

ProjectR—version v0.4.0.0—arrives like an early morning slice of something both familiar and new: warm, domestic, and quietly promising. Team Apple Pie frames their creation with a name that evokes comfort and craft, and that spirit threads through the work’s subtle ambitions. ProjectR -v0.4.0.0- -Team-Apple Pie-

Early access players who downloaded the pre-release candidate (dubbed "Crust Testing") are already praising ProjectR -v0.4.0.0-.

"Team Apple Pie just showed AAA studios what a real survival sim looks like. The fabric degradation alone is worth the price of admission."PixelNomad42

"I was skeptical after the 0.3.6 disaster, but this build is rock solid. The new scent tracking is exactly what the game needed. And yes, I have darned three socks."RetroGrade_Gamer Behind the cryptic version string lies a development

"Can we talk about the audio? I heard a storm coming from 10 minutes away because the wind changed pitch. I actually built shelter before I saw lightning. That's insane."LoudSpeakersOnly

Version: v0.4.0.0 Developer: Team Apple Pie Status: Stable Release / Major Update

With v0.4.0.0 out the door, the team is already teasing the next horizon. Leaked from their internal “Baking Scheduler” is a feature simply codenamed “The Oven.” Speculation suggests it’s a multiplayer netcode bridge, allowing two ProjectR clients to share a single simulation space peer-to-peer. “We’re not a studio

When asked for comment, pie_chief offered only this:

“Version 0.4.0.0 is us proving we can build. Version 0.5.0.0 will be us proving we can connect. Keep your save files warm.”
