Title: The Echoes of the Golden Horn: A Critical Analysis of Fetih 1453, Historical Revisionism, and Its Resonance in Indonesian Digital Sphere Tone and length
Abstract
This paper examines the 2012 Turkish epic film Fetih 1453 within the dual contexts of Turkish neo-Ottomanism and its fervent reception among Indonesian audiences. While the film serves as a cinematic spectacle recreating the Fall of Constantinople, it functions primarily as a tool for constructing a specific religious and nationalist identity. By analyzing the film’s narrative strategies, character archetypes, and historical liberties, and contrasting them with the search trends and viewership patterns in Indonesia (specifically regarding the demand for "New" or subtitled versions), this paper argues that Fetih 1453 transcends entertainment to become a site of transnational religious solidarity and digital ummah identity.
