Given Nuefliks’ budget constraints, Mafia 2 relies on relatively unknown faces. The lead, Ahaan Sharma (as Kabir), delivers a surprisingly controlled performance. He avoids the typical over-the-top theatrics of low-budget gangster films, instead opting for a brooding, coiled intensity reminiscent of Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s early work.
Vikramjeet (as Shakti) is the muscle-bound archetype but brings surprising vulnerability in the second half when his character discovers his wife has been kidnapped. The standout, however, is Maya Dutt as Zarina. She portrays the grieving widow turned ruthless don with chilling efficiency. Her monologue midway through the film—explaining how she watched her husband bleed out without calling an ambulance because she wanted power—is genuinely unsettling.
On the downside, the supporting cast of corrupt cops and henchmen are cardboard cutouts.
