Macos Big Sur Patcher -
Ben Sova (also known as ASentientBot and later dosdude1-adjacent) had been a known figure in the Mac hacking community. He had previously worked on the macOS Mojave Patcher and Catalina Patcher (by dosdude1), but for Big Sur, he stepped into the lead role.
Ben realized that Big Sur was different. It introduced a signed, sealed System volume (SSV) that prevented any modification of system files. Patching was no longer about replacing a few kexts—it meant breaking Apple’s cryptographic seal and creating a fully bootable, patched system volume without breaking updates.
He called his tool: macOS Big Sur Patcher (later renamed to Patched Sur).
“The goal is simple: let your unsupported Mac run Big Sur as natively as possible, with as few compromises as possible.”
— Ben Sova, 2020 Macos Big Sur Patcher
| Tool | Target macOS | Best for | |------|--------------|-----------| | OpenCore Legacy Patcher | Big Sur, Monterey, Ventura, Sonoma | Newer approach, better support, OTA updates | | DosDude1’s Patchers | Mojave, Catalina | Older Macs (2008–2011) | | MicroPatcher | Monterey | Lightweight, specialized |
Recommendation: If you’re aiming for Big Sur or later, OpenCore Legacy Patcher (OCLP) is now the more modern and actively maintained solution. The “macOS Big Sur Patcher” tool discussed above is largely superseded by OCLP for most users.
If your Mac has a Broadcom BCM4331 chip (2011–2012), Wi-Fi will be broken until you apply the post-install root patches. You must plug into Ethernet during initial setup. Ben Sova (also known as ASentientBot and later

The Process:
A "patcher" is a software utility that modifies the macOS Big Sur installer to bypass Apple’s hardware restrictions. Officially, Big Sur requires a 2013 Mac or later (with specific Metal-compatible GPUs). The patcher removes these "compatibility checks" and injects legacy drivers for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and graphics cards that Apple dropped support for. “The goal is simple: let your unsupported Mac
In the context of Big Sur, the patcher accomplishes three critical tasks:

Note: Installing macOS on unsupported hardware carries risks, including potential data loss, security vulnerabilities due to disabled SIP (System Integrity Protection), and system instability.
