Historically, the iSTAR G4 software was strictly on-premise. However, Johnson Controls now offers C•CURE 9000 Go and integration with OpenBlue Cloud. This allows the iSTAR G4 to report to a cloud-based software instance while retaining its edge processing.
Note: Do not confuse the iSTAR G4 with the "iSTAR Ultra." The G4 requires the full C•CURE 9000 software suite; it does not run on the lightweight "C•CURE IQ" mobile interface. istar g4 software
Before we manipulate the software, we must understand the hardware target. The iSTAR G4 is a high-performance, network-attached access control panel. Unlike legacy controllers that require constant hand-holding from a head-end server, the iSTAR G4 features "Edge Intelligence." This means it can make access decisions (grant/deny) independently if the network connection to the server is severed.
However, this intelligence is governed entirely by the iSTAR G4 software—specifically the firmware running on the board and the server software that pushes the Access Control Lists (ACLs). Note: Do not confuse the iSTAR G4 with the "iSTAR Ultra
C•CURE 9000 utilizes a client-server architecture. The server hosts the SQL database (containing cardholder data, clearance levels, and schedules). The iSTAR G4 software driver within C•CURE 9000 acts as the translator, converting software commands into binary instructions for the G4 panel.
Key functionalities delivered via the software include: network-attached access control panel.
