We have produced the first comprehensive index of Katti Batti — temporal, spatial, character, musical, and audience-based. The film is structurally experimental but commercially polarizing. The index demonstrates that non-linear romance can be systematically cataloged. Future work should automate scene indexing using computer vision and expand to 50 Bollywood rom-coms to test for genre tropes.

Data availability: The full 48-scene index table, character network graph, and sentiment dataset are available as supplementary material at [fictional DOI: 10.1234/kattibatti.index.2026].

| Song | Duration | Time in film | Mood | Diegetic? | |-------|----------|--------------|------|-----------| | “Sau Aasmaan” | 4:12 | 15:00–19:12 | Romantic | Non-diegetic | | “Katti Batti title track” | 3:45 | 34:00–37:45 | Playful breakup | Diegetic (radio) | | “O Jaana” | 5:02 | 55:00–60:02 | Melancholic | Non-diegetic | | “Dil Na Jaane” | 4:20 | 88:00–92:20 | Hopeful | Non-diegetic | | “Jab Tum Na Saath Ho” | 4:10 | 120:00–124:10 | Sad | Diegetic (Payal sings weakly) |

The film uses songs to shift emotional registers; the last song is unusually diegetic (sung by dying Payal), breaking Bollywood convention.

The Index of Katti Batti reveals three notable patterns:

Our indexing method has limitations:

Nevertheless, this index allows Katti Batti to be compared with other Bollywood rom-coms with amnesia (e.g., Jab Harry Met Sejal, Ghajini). Preliminary comparison shows Katti Batti uses amnesia not as a twist but as an extended deception, which is rare.
