In 2002, Romanian audiences were used to a specific cinematic sound: the voice of a lone translator, trembling slightly with emotion, speaking over the original English track. For decades, the standard for foreign films in Romania was the "voice-over" (often called traducerea în voice-over), a system born from the need for speed and low cost. Then came a squirrel, an acorn, and a rather grumpy mammoth—and everything changed.
“Ice Age” (original title: Ice Age), released by 20th Century Fox, was one of the first major animated blockbusters to receive a full, professional dubbing in Romanian specifically for its home video release (VHS and DVD) in 2002/2003.
