Using Windows’ built-in drivers will work… poorly. For a better setup, you need the manufacturer’s OPOS / JPOS drivers or ESC/POS emulation layer.

The USB drive held a setup.exe for EZCAD 2.14.5. You copied it to your desktop (never run from the drive). Right-click → “Run as Administrator” → installed in C:\EZCAD2. After reboot, you opened EZCAD. A blank white canvas appeared. But no laser communication yet. You went to Params → System Parameters → Port Configuration. The dropdown showed COM3 and COM5. You unplugged and replugged the USB cable—Windows Device Manager revealed “USB Serial Port (COM5).” You selected COM5, baud rate 115200, then clicked “Test Communication.” A green “OK” appeared. But the laser still wouldn’t fire. Why? Because the RML1316 uses a key switch + software enable double safety. You turned the physical key on the control box to “ON,” then in EZCAD: Laser → Enable Laser Output (a checkbox). The status bar changed from “Laser Off” to “Laser Ready (Standby).”
