Many users never set a password—or forget the one they created. If you haven’t changed the password, try these manufacturer defaults:
| Brand | Default Username | Default Password | Notes | |-------|----------------|------------------|-------| | Hikvision | admin | 12345 or (blank) | Older models: no password; newer: 12345 | | Dahua | admin | admin | Some use blank or 123456 | | Zmodo | admin | (blank) or 123456 | Also try 666666 | | Night Owl | admin | (blank) or 12345 | Newer units require setup during first boot | | Swann | admin | 12345 or swann | Some use no password | | Q-See | admin | admin or 123456 | Very common | | Annke | admin | 12345 or (blank) | | | Lorex | admin | (blank) or admin | Lorex by Dahua: try admin/admin | | Generic (XVR, H.264) | admin | (blank) / 123456 / 888888 | Check sticker on DVR case | h264 dvr login password
Important: If the DVR was previously used, the default password may have been changed. Also, many modern H.264 DVRs force you to create a strong password during initial setup—defaults won’t work. RTSP check (to test stream authentication)
(Actual defaults vary by vendor and firmware.) Web UI source: view HTML title/headers for strings like "H
For newer DVRs (post-2018), many manufacturers require a “password reset file” generated via their support portal. You will need the DVR’s serial number and proof of purchase.
