Greene nails the "detached sniper" vibe. Ogata is notoriously hard to voice because he rarely raises his voice. Greene uses a low, almost bored register that makes Ogata’s sudden bursts of violence ten times more shocking.
With Season 5 on the horizon, fans are eager to see if the entire cast returns. Crunchyroll has confirmed that Ian Sinclair, Michelle Rojas, and David Wald have already recorded preliminary dialogue for the final arc, which introduces two major characters: the Russian sniper Vasily and the escaped convict “Gansoku.” Expect announcements regarding new voice actors in late 2025.
Given the rising popularity of Golden Kamuy in the West—fueled by its recent live-action film adaptation in Japan—the English dub is finally getting the respect it deserves. No longer dismissed as “just the cooking show with the bear memes,” Golden Kamuy’s dub stands alongside Cowboy Bebop and Black Lagoon as a rare example where the English voice track enhances the gritty, globe-trotting atmosphere.
Ian Sinclair is a legend in the dubbing world (known for Space Dandy, The Yakuza's Guide to Babysitting). His Sugimoto is rough, gravelly, and tired. Unlike the Japanese voice actor (who leans into primal rage), Sinclair’s Sugimoto sounds like a man who has seen too many battlefield horrors and is running on stale cigarettes and spite. His comedic timing—especially when Sugimoto gets confused by Ainu cuisine—is flawless. Golden Kamuy -Dub-
Golden Kamuy has two versions for Season 1:
For the full experience, make sure on Crunchyroll you select the Uncensored version – listed separately sometimes as “Golden Kamuy (Uncensored).” The dub is available in both, but censorship ruins key comedic/brutal moments.
Before celebrating the dub, one must respect the challenges the voice actors faced. Golden Kamuy is not your average shonen battle anime. It is a cultural encyclopedia wrapped in a gory action flick. Greene nails the "detached sniper" vibe
Let’s address the elephant in the room. Golden Kamuy is famous for three things: historical accuracy, hyper-violence, and… a stunning amount of male nudity and homoerotic tension. The sub has memes about “CGI bears” and “mutual masturbation scenes.”
The English dub doesn’t pull punches. Ian Sinclair delivers lines about “Otaru’s finest seaweed” and “looking at my crotch” with a straight face. More importantly, the dub script handles the infamous “Hot Spring” episode (Episode 4) with comedic timing that arguably surpasses the original. The English voice actors lean into the absurdity, making the scene less cringey and more slapstick. In Japanese, the silence makes it awkward; in English, the rapid-fire dialogue turns it into a farce.
If you have been putting off Golden Kamuy because you heard the animation was rough in Season 1 (it is—those CGI bears are a rite of passage) or because you felt overwhelmed by the historical jargon, the Golden Kamuy dub is your perfect entry point. Ian Sinclair’s roguish Sugimoto and Michelle Rojas’s warm, grounded Asirpa form one of the most underrated duos in modern anime. For the full experience , make sure on
The dub respects the Ainu culture, amplifies the black comedy, and never shies away from the bloody, bizarre heart of Noda’s story. So grab some cikap (owl stew), don’t think too hard about the skin tattoos, and start streaming. Itekimashoi—let’s go hunt for gold.
