In 2009, Sony released God of War Collection for PS3, which upscaled GoW 1 & 2 to 720p/60fps. Later, God of War: Origins Collection handled the PSP games. In 2015, God of War III Remastered landed on PS4.
Ironically, these remasters are trapped on the PS3’s architecture (Cell Broadband Engine). Porting those versions would be nearly as hard as porting the originals.

Here is the uncomfortable truth killing Sony’s urgency: You can already play God of War 2 on PC.
PCSX2, the PS2 emulator, has been mature for years. With a moderately powerful PC (even a Steam Deck), you can upscale God of War 2 to 4K, force 60fps, enable widescreen hacks, and save states. It looks fantastic.

Sony knows this. By releasing an official God of War 2 PC port, they would be charging money for something veteran players already emulate for free. To win, they must add value—vaulted textures, developer commentary, achievements, and mod support.
The 2018 PC port was famously excellent, running on an older engine and scaling incredibly well on a wide range of hardware. Ragnarök, however, was built natively for the PlayStation 5. Ideally, Sony would contract Bluepoint Games (the masters of Demon’s Souls remake and Shadow of the Colossus) to fully remake God of War 2 from the ground up for PC and PS5.
