Eset Offline Update

Before applying the update to a critical production server, verify the integrity of the USB drive.

  • Run a manual scan or view logs for update success messages.

    Some sophisticated malware (like ransomware or rootkits) will deliberately corrupt your TCP/IP stack, disable your network card drivers, or hijack DNS settings to block you from reaching ESET’s update servers. To clean the machine, you first need the latest signatures—but you can’t get online. Using a clean "donor" PC to download the offline update and transferring it via USB is the industry standard solution.

  • Linux/macOS: product-specific paths; consult product docs.
  • Copy the update files (.vdb, .nup, etc.) into the update folder, preserving filenames.
  • Restart ESET service or re-enable protection.
  • In the ESET UI, trigger “Update” → “Update now” to let the product process local files.

    For organizations managing hundreds of offline endpoints, a single USB is impractical. Instead, you create a Local Mirror—a server inside your offline network that acts as an official ESET repository.
