Stopped 3.16 — Epsxe Core

The “core stopped” error on Windows is rare but occurs if you are using an outdated libretro core named “ePSXe” (though ePSXe was never an official libretro core; confusion arises from PCSX-ReARMed or DuckStation). If you see this, you’re likely using a mislabeled core. Use DuckStation or PCSX-ReARMed instead.

ePSXe for Android uses OpenGL or Software rendering. The 3.16 update tweaked hardware acceleration. On certain GPUs (Mali, early Adreno, PowerVR), the new rendering pipeline fails, causing the core to stop. epsxe core stopped 3.16

If the “ePSXe core stopped 3.16” error persists after all fixes, it may be time to switch emulators. Here are two excellent alternatives: The “core stopped” error on Windows is rare

| Emulator | Pros | Cons | |----------|------|------| | DuckStation | Faster, modern code, supports save state conversion, better Android integration | Slightly higher battery usage | | FPse | Very stable, great audio, works well on older devices | Paid app, fewer video options | ePSXe for Android uses OpenGL or Software rendering

DuckStation, in particular, can read ePSXe memory cards and even some save states. It also supports the same BIOS files.
