The story begins with a high-profile heist notice from Kaito Kid, the “phantom thief,” who declares he will steal a Russian imperial egg—the “Memory Egg”—currently held at an Osaka museum. The police, along with Conan Edogawa (the disguised Shinichi Kudo) and Heiji Hattori, attempt to thwart him. However, during a failed capture, Kaito Kid is seemingly shot, and the egg’s owner is murdered.
