Doctor Who 2005 2013 Christmas Special The Time... May 2026
The introduction of the Eleventh Doctor’s greatest companion: Clara Oswin Oswald (Jenna Coleman). Set in Victorian London, the Great Intelligence manifests as sentient snow. The Doctor, grieving the loss of the Ponds, has abandoned the universe and lives on a cloud above London. Christmas Eve forces him back into action.
This episode coined the phrase “The Time of the Doctor” as a prophecy. The snow, the memory worm, and the return of the Ice Governess all point to a single truth: Christmas is the one time of year when the Doctor cannot refuse a cry for help.

The Premise: The Doctor receives a mysterious message broadcast throughout the universe. The message is coming from a single, unknown planet. Upon investigation, the Doctor discovers that every one of his greatest enemies—Daleks, Cybermen, Weeping Angels, Sontarans, and others—has gathered in orbit around this planet. They are terrified of the message and are ready to go to war to stop it.
The Setting: The planet is a small, colony town called Christmas. The town is completely devoted to the holiday, and strangely, the residents never leave. The Doctor lands and discovers the truth: the planet is actually Trenzalore, the final resting place of the Doctor he saw in a previous episode ("The Name of the Doctor"). The Premise: The Doctor receives a mysterious message
The Truth of the Siege: The message is coming from a crack in the universe (last seen in Season 5). The Time Lords of Gallifrey, trapped in a pocket universe, are calling out, asking, "Doctor Who?" If the Doctor speaks his true name, the Time Lords will return through the crack, bringing Gallifrey back. However, if Gallifrey returns, the alien fleets in the sky will burn the planet to ashes to prevent another Time War.
The Siege of Trenzalore: The Doctor makes a noble choice. He decides to stay and protect the town of Christmas so the Time Lords cannot return (saving the universe from war), but also preventing the enemies from destroying the town. He sends Clara home to safety, but she returns to find that centuries have passed. unknown planet. Upon investigation
We see the Doctor age hundreds of years in this one town, fighting a silent, defensive war to protect the people of Christmas. He grows old, weary, and frail.
The Climax: The Doctor is now an ancient man, near the end of his final regeneration (having used up all his lives). The Daleks are the last enemy standing, and they are invading the town. The Doctor is too weak to fight them off. In a moment of hope, the Time Lords grant him a brand new regeneration cycle through the crack in the wall. This restores his strength and gives him a new lease on life.
The Regeneration: With a burst of regeneration energy, the Doctor destroys the Dalek ships. He returns to the TARDIS, where he has one last hallucination of Amy Pond (the first face his face ever saw). He removes his bow tie, says his goodbyes, and regenerates into the Twelfth Doctor (Peter Capaldi).
