For vehicles with a valid subscription: Go to the BMW Update Manager (formerly the Download Manager). Log in with your VIN (last 7 characters).
For vehicles without a subscription: You must purchase a map update from the BMW ConnectedDrive Store. Prices range from $30 to $120 USD depending on region.
Pro tip: If you have a BMW produced after July 2019, you may be eligible for "Remote Software Upgrade." Check your My BMW App first. If an OTA update is pending, you do not need a manual download.
